Application of US2009/0075008A1 teaches a method how to formulate a UV releasable adhesive.
The authors developed a photo-curable composition for a pressure sensitive adhesive layer including a pressure sensitive adhesive binder,a reactive a acrylate having a silicone backbone,a thermal curing agent, and a photo-initiator. The pressure sensitive adhesive binder includes a copolymer of acrylic monomers, and a low molecular weight acrylate bonded to the copolymer, the low molecular weight acrylate having at least one pendent carbon carbon double bond.
Two points are interesting, not sure if its original invention or not, including:
- Connect C=C containing segments to acrylate polymer main chain through urethane linkage. With this design, the compatibility problem is solved and, in addition the migration to UVR/Adherent (e.g. Wafer) causing possible interlocking after UV illumination is avoided.
- A reactive acrylate with a silicone backbone is introduced in the UVR system. Silicone component enhances release performances during UV illumination, due to its low surface energy.
The following picture summarize the structure of the developed UVR tape.
